Dave’s career path at Pho is a great example of the training and flexibility we offer our staff. We recruited him originally for our Manchester front of house team, in the summer of 2015, through our first social hiring project with The Factory Youth Zone. When Dave came to us, he had very little experience but wanted to learn. We trained him up and after a few months in Manchester he showed interest in helping us open our restaurant in Birmingham. It was obvious that Dave loved travelling around the UK and enjoyed working in different sites with different teams, so we promoted him to our openings team where he assisted in the launch of our Cambridge and Bristol restaurants. Now fully cross-trained in back and front of house, Dave has moved to London to support any restaurant that may need him until we open another Pho.
Lucy started working at Pho near Oxford Circus in 2010 as a waitress. By 2011 she had progressed to supervisor for our exciting restaurant opening in Soho and was promoted to assistant manager quickly – all while studying to receive a degree in social work. The flexibility of the job suited her while she was at uni, so she stayed with the team and opened our Spitalfields restaurant as an assistant manager. Within a couple of years she was made opening general manager of our Islington restaurant, and went on to lead the openings of our One New Change and Covent Garden sites. In 2016 Lucy made a move into the Pho head office as our Head of People, where she looks after all human resources, hiring and training, and she has introduced our amazing social recruitment programme.
Jit is the queen of our kitchens. She joined Pho as a head chef in Pho Oxford Circus in 2009 and then quickly made it through the ranks to head up the kitchen opening team in our Spitalfields restaurant. Only a couple of years later, having worked in every single one of our kitchens at some point, she was promoted to senior head chef of the company. Jit is now in charge of our food development and all of the kitchen staff across our 19 restaurants, and she runs the kitchen at each of our new restaurant openings across the UK.
Fran joined the Pho team in 2011 as a part time waitress in our Spitalfields restaurant. While also getting her degree at uni, she found that the schedule of working in hospitality worked well for her. She was young and hungry, so we promoted her to supervisor, then assistant manager and then she eventually become the general manager of one of our busiest restaurants in London. After running Pho Spitalfields for over a year, Fran joined the operations team in our head office as an operations manager.
Georgina joined our Leeds restaurant (front of house) in 2015 and quickly became a strong member of the team. She showed interest in travelling and helping to open restaurants across the UK with us, so we supported her relocation to Cambridge and then Bristol to assist the openings team. Now permanently in Bristol (after loving opening the restaurant there so much) she is on a fast track training plan to be part of the management team as an assistant manager.
Muthu started as a kitchen porter at Pho and now he is one of our amazing head chefs. He quickly progressed from KP to line chef (in just 6 months!) and spent a couple of years in our kitchens training to become a head chef. He is now running the kitchen in our largest London restaurant (in One New Change @ St Paul’s Cathedral) and helps to induct and train many of our new kitchen staff across the company.
